Welcome to our Summer Art Class Series!

These courses are aimed at motivated high school students who are looking to create a future for themselves in art. Each class is carefully designed to hone important skills in art, improve a student's artistic eye, and refine a portfolio (all while being a lot of fun!)

What to expect:

  • Lots of flexible studio time, allowing students to either follow a project given by the instructor, or create their own art.
  • Brief, 20-30-minute lessons about art theory, covering basic to advanced materials.
  • Individualized, constructive feedback and encouragement.
  • Conversations about art that will help students gain a better understanding of post-secondary level art, their own artistic voice, and more!

There are 4 categories of lessons:

  • Drawing foundations: Developing life drawing skills, an essential part of any portfolio.
  • Colour: Exploring colour relationships, stylization of colour, and watercolour painting techniques.
  • Abstraction: This class will have students simplifying and abstracting objects, and learning how this can make their realism better, as well as developing their sense of style.
  • Exploration: Lots of different materials will be provided, and students are encouraged to explore! This may include needle felting, markers, paints, clay, and more.

Art supplies will be provided, students are only expected to show up with the motivation to learn, and their creativity!

Frequently asked questions

Will the content repeat?

Yes, but also no! We'll run each of the 4 categories of classes twice, though each week will offer slightly new and different material. Students who attended the first lesson of that category will also be encouraged to create more advanced work, with more individualized feedback!

Can students bring their own supplies?

Absolutely. While materials will be provided, students are welcome to bring their own art supplies.

What skill level is required?

Some art experience is required, though the projects are also designed to be interesting for students, whether they're beginner or advanced! It should be noted, though, that the classes are based around portfolio development, so the student should be motivated to improve their foundational skills!

Is the shop wheelchair accessible?

No, wheelchair accessibility is an ongoing goal of ours, and unfortunately all entrances to the shop currently feature a small (~30cm/12in) step up.

What is the refund policy?

Full refunds are available up to 3 days before the class runs, and a refund of half the ticket amount is available until 9:00AM the day of the event. After that, refunds will unfortunately not be available.
