Workshop Overview: This workshop provides updated information about suicide prevention and assessment. Roots of vulnerability overall and with marginalized groups will be explored, along with an overview of critical warning signs and how these may manifest in both general and therapeutic settings. This will be followed by discussion of four critical areas of comprehensive suicide risk assessment, with a model provided for immediate implementation. Attendees will discuss translating information obtained from suicide risk assessment into effective support plans. Translation of these prevention, assessment, and support aspects into the attendees’ settings will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • identify at least two less apparent ways in which suicidal ideation may be reflected in individuals’ actions or comments, both in and out of the therapeutic setting.
  • identify the four critical areas of suicide risk assessment and how to obtain that information in an interview format.
  • describe at least two evidence-based interventions that they can use for realistic support plan in their setting.
