About this Event

I Cannot Tell You How I Feel (dir. Su Friedrich, 2016, 42 mins.)

In this special event as part of the Wolf Humanities Center’s 2019-2020 Forum on Kinship, Su Friedrich’s 2016 film, I Cannot Tell You How I Feel takes us inside her family’s uncharted world of aging and severe memory loss. Friedrich’s mother Lore plays the lead, kicking and protesting against being moved at the age of 94 from her home in Chicago to an “independent living” facility in New York, while Friedrich and her two siblings fill out the supporting roles — cajoling, comforting, and freaking out.

Following the film, Friedrich will be joined by Wolf Humanities Center director Karen Redrobe (Elliot and Roslyn Jaffe Endowed Professor in Film Studies) for a conversation about family, filmmaking, and more.
