Overview
For our last show at the studio this year we are excited to bring:
Myles Ortiz-Green is a multidisciplinary artist, pianist and composer and explores the ideas of interconnectedness, digital identity, decadence, and the “in-between” in their work. As a pianist with a background in classical and jazz studies, they combine analogue and digital electronics and improvisation to manipulate samples and field recordings.
A native of Los Angeles, they’ve been able to collaborate on a variety of films, multimedia projects, and installations. In 2020 Myles helped start the "Inaugural Black Future Creator Program" with Beats by Dre. Green’s film scores have received nominations and have been included in notable events such as the Atlanta Horror Film Festival, San Francisco Short Festival, Black Truth Film Festival, Black Film & TV Collective Selection, Launderthestars, Cult Critic Movie Awards, and the 28th Annual DGA Student Film Award. Myles holds a BA in music from Tulane University, and is an alumnus of the prestigious POSSE scholarship program. Currently they are pursuing their PhD in Computer Music at University of California San Diego.
Derrick Butler is a pianist, composer, producer and educator from Los Angeles, CA. Having studied Jazz in New Orleans and Atlanta, Derrick blends traditional methods of jazz and funk music with the new sounds of the west coast. Derrick is passionate about sharing his soul through music and inspiring others to find that for themselves. He has preformed on many stages in Los Angeles such as Walt Disney concert hall and toured around the country with the popular artist B.o.b. Derrick has also contributed production for the artists Denzel Curry, PlayThatBoiZay, and Lily Rayne.
Kenneth Brown II is a trumpeter, composer, arranger, educator, and recording artist who's performed with world-renowned artists such as John Legend, Kelly Rowland, ChloexHalle, Kamasi Washington,and Snoop Dogg. Kenneth has performed on world-class venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, LACMA, and Royce Hall, as well as making appearances on the GRAMMYs, the Ellen Show, and The Voice
