Event description
For 22 years, Design Corps has hosted Structures for Inclusion to showcase the most innovative ideas and projects in Public Interest Design.

About this event

Structures for Inclusion 2022 will feature work of five international design organizations who have successfully been joining efforts to create a network of networks, called Design for the Common Good Network, which functions as an incubator for best ideas, projects, practices, and education in public interest design.

Keynote speakers are Teddy Cruz, Fonna Forman and Peter Fattinger.

The conference is partnering with the Design for the Common Good (DCG) Network and features the Design for the Common Good International Exhibition hosted at Metropolitan State University of Denver's Center for Visual Art. The exhibition presents thirty public interest design projects from six continents and twenty-two countries. Richly documented through artifacts, photography, plans, videos, and design process graphics, the exhibition tells the individual and collective stories of projects selected from within the five international design organizations that comprise the DCG Network, including a curated selection of regional works. Exhibited according to key issues each project addresses, the Design for the Common Good International Exhibition brings the extraordinary value of public interest design to the forefront where projects across the globe share a profound connection to the social, economic, and environmental fabric of life.

The DCG Network is introducing a new digital platform to facilitate collaborations along with a database of public interest design projects. The features will be demonstrated at the Conference, Exhibition, and Conversations.

Post-conference events will be online, March 3 and 19, 2022, to extend the conversation and community created by the conference and exhibition. Join with other leaders, practitioners, and experts in the field for a curated dialogue about the exhibited projects and the stories behind them. Free -- separate registration on Eventbrite.

Organizer SEED Network, Design Corps

Organizer of Structures for Inclusion Conference 2022

This half-day course will provide architecture and other design professionals in public interest design with in-depth study on methods of how design can address the critical issues faced by communities. Training in public interest design is a way of enhancing an existing design practice and learning skills to become pro-actively engaged in community-based design. The curriculum is formed around the Social Economic Environmental Design (SEED) metric, a set of standards that outlines the process and principles of this growing approach to design. This process provides a step-by-step aid for those who want to undertake public interest design. Certification in the SEED process will be given.
