Richard “STretch” Bruyn is a dynamic jazz pianist and educator rooted in the Tampa Bay music scene since 2003.

A native of Miami, STretch studied under Vince Maggio at the University of Miami and later with David Baker at Indiana University. His style blends traditional jazz with funk, soul, and gospel influences, shaped by early exposure to Stevie Wonder’s harmonically rich compositions. STretch has performed with numerous local and national jazz artists and leads his ensemble, STretch’s Rubberband, which debuted at the St. Pete Jazz Walk in 2019. He’s a key figure in the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association and hosts regular Monday night jazz jams, mentoring emerging musicians and vocalists. His performances are known for their vibrant energy and deep musicality, celebrating jazz’s expressive power while fostering community and collaboration.
