Strands of The Land: Yucca Cordage and Native Knowledge Workshop
Overview
Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the traditional art of cordage making using yucca. Learn about the cultural history and practical uses of natural fibers while practicing the twisting and preparation techniques needed to create your own cordage. This workshop requires patience and fine motor work with your hands and fingers and is open to participants ages 8 and up.
We are honored to welcome Sienna Thomas, former naturalist at Whitewater Preserve and a dedicated conservationist with over 20 years of experience in natural resource and cultural resource protection. A member of the Piipaash and Tsitsistas tribal nations, Sienna continues her work as a culture keeper, sharing the deep significance of Indigenous knowledge and traditions that connect people to the land.
