Storm Drain Labeling Volunteer Day
Overview
About the Event
Join MontereySEA for a hands-on community volunteer day in Sand City! Together, we’ll help protect our waterways and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary by installing and refreshing storm drain markers throughout the community.
Storm drain labeling is a simple yet powerful action that reminds residents and visitors that everything that enters our storm drains flows directly to the Bay. By volunteering, you’re helping prevent pollution, supporting healthy wildlife habitats, and strengthening community stewardship.
What We’ll Be Doing
- Installing new storm drain markers
- Replacing damaged or missing markers
- Cleaning and prepping drain areas before installation
- Learning about local watersheds and pollution prevention
Who Can Join
This event is open to volunteers of all ages!
Adults may bring youth volunteers (with proper consent). Community groups, students, families, and first-time volunteers are all welcome.
What to Bring
- Closed-toe shoes
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)
- Water bottle
- Weather-appropriate clothing
All tools and materials will be provided.
Why It Matters
Storm drains are critical pathways in our urban environment. Labeling them helps educate the public and reduce pollutants like plastics, chemicals, and debris from entering the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, one of the most diverse marine ecosystems on the West Coast.
Your efforts directly support cleaner streets, healthier oceans, and a more engaged community.
