About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Did you know the Northern Lined Seahorse is native to Eastern Long Island? Unfortunately, loss of habitat has led to significant decline in their populations. Come to this interactive workshop to learn about the life cycles + behaviors of seahorses from CCE Marine's experts, and then work together as a group to construct a "Seahorse Hotel" artificial habitat based on what you have learned--your creation will be deployed in local waters and utilized in our new seahorse restoration + monitoring efforts!

We ask that anyone reserving a workshop ticket be 12yrs+ as we will be working with sharp objects and power tools, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

*Due to popular demand, we have added a ticket type to accomodate those who just want to "listen and learn" for the educational portion of the event and then observe the hotel building activity. Please be sure to select the appropriate ticket type when making your reservation. Any questions, please feel free to contact our resident Seahorse Expert Kim Manzo who will be leading the workshop at kp92@cornell.edu.

Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program has been “giving back to the bays” since 1985. As regional leaders in all aspects of coastal and marine research and restoration on Long Island, we have been able to make significant progress in enhancing the health of our local waterways. Through the Back to the Bays Initiative we work at the community level with local supporters and stewards to provide meaningful opportunities for involvement in this important work.
