Rochester/Finger Lakes Dental Hygienistst Association sponsored by the MCC's Stundent American Dental Hygienist Association invite you to join us at Monroe Community College for an informative session on the current trends and challenges in dental hygiene in New York State. Learn from NYDHA representative and President Marlyce James, EdD (Cand.), MEd, RDH, CDA, FADHA , network with fellow professionals, and gain valuable insights to enhance your practice. Course Description:

This course offers an exploration of the current landscape of dental hygiene in New York State, focusing on workforce challenges, ethical dilemmas, and a brief overview of legislative updates. Participants will gain insight into workforce trends and key issues facing dental hygienists.

By the end of this course, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the state of dental hygiene in New York, along with the tools and strategies needed to navigate workforce challenges, uphold ethical standards, and advocate for a resilient and empowered profession.

Course Objectives:

  1. Analyze workforce issues facing dental hygienists in New York State.
  2. Examine ethical and moral challenges faced by dental hygienists.
  3. Assess current legislation and their impact on dental hygiene practice.
  4. Identify actionable strategies for improving workforce conditions, ethical practices, and legislative outcomes.

Marlyce James is a trailblazing force in dental hygiene. A respected leader, educator, and clinician, she brings deep expertise from the operatory, the classroom, and the community.

Marlyce has dedicated 15 years of service in dentistry, 5+ yearss a dental assistant & almost 10 years as a dental hygienist. She has held leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels of the dental hygienists’ association, driving initiatives that strengthen the profession and expand opportunities for oral health professionals.

Beyond her clinical and academic work, she leads community initiatives and champions increased access to care; ensuring underserved populations are not left behind. She ignites passion, challenges norms, and sets new standards for excellence in the field.
