Moore Center for Economic Education, Startup Junkie, and educators from around our state as we learn from Arkansas entrepreneurs who have made the leap and started their own business. These startup stories may just inspire the creative minds of your learners. At the very least they will serve as current examples to which your students can relate and serve for teaching business or higher order thinking. See how they assessed current community needs and pulled together the resources needed to build their businesses.

Featuring African American Businesses Across Arkansas: Legacy and Startup

On the last day of Black History Month join us for one hour Zoom program of knowledge, fun, prizes, and Pd credits. Share African American entrepreneurs from across Arkansas with your students to introduce them to a burgeoning lifestyle that grew during Covid.. We’ll share entrepreneurial way of thinking that helps people working for companies, teaching students, solving daily problems, or in starting and operating a business. The creative and critical thinking empowers your students. This session will feature a Delta farming family, The Carpenters, their legacy in the industry, ways they helped Black farmers, and how they used the Delta resources differently than others. Lastly, Carl Dunn assessed his skills and started doing what was needed in his neighborhood that turned into a business during Covid. We’ll provide videos of these entrepreneurs for your students to learn and connect. Economics Arkansas will provide curricula or books. Startup Junkie will provide game prizes! (Caleb, Marsha can check to see if EA will provide those.)

This four-part program introduces Arkansas teachers to some of the state’s most interesting and innovative founders. In this session, we’ll hear stories from entrepreneurs of color who have built incredible companies and work to pave the way for others in their community to succeed. We’ll hear from Black and Hispanic entrepreneurs who have built innovative law firms, vegan bakeries, e-commerce platforms for other entrepreneurs in need, and more.

Sessions are from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will be conducted over Zoom. You must register to receive a Zoom link and password to join us.
