Course Description:

Clinicians need to be educated on the current trends and techniques related to pelvic floor dysfunction as it relates to orthopedic patients.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be educated in the assessment and treatment of coccyx pain, common impairments associated with the SI Joint in pregnant patients, breathing techniques affecting the core and postural stability and treatment of the post-partum patient.

Learning Objectives:

Identify structure of the coccyx and explain the role of the coccyx during sitting standing and walking.
Develop a plan of care to treat coccyx pain and options to relieve this pain during sitting.
Describe the structures of the pelvis, including the SI Joint and Pubic symphysis, and explain their role in contributing to pain during pregnancy.
Establish an appropriate plan to treat symptoms during pregnancy to safely treat the pregnant orthopedic patient.
Assess normal diaphragmatic breathing and breathing patterns and develop an exercise progression for dysfunctional breathing.
Describe physiologic changes and common clinical presentation of the pelvic floor that occur in postpartum
Develop criteria for the postpartum patient to safely return to fitness activities and determine the need for referral for further care
