Course Description:

Clinicians need to be educated on the current trends and techniques related to treating the patient who presents with a stiff hand.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will identify causes and management of the stiff hand and define underlying anatomical structures and related physiological processes. Participants will establish methods of edema control, joint mobilization, orthotic interventions, and functional activity modification to improve outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

Identify and manage edema of the hand and digits and understand the processes that lead from edema formation to scar adhesion
Determine causes of joint immobility including intrinsic vs extrinsic vs capsular restriction
Define and select appropriate orthosis for active and passive mobilization of the joints in the hand
Apply principles of total end range time (TERT) and low load long duration (LLLD) stretches
