Course Description:

The goal of occupational therapy in low vision rehabilitation is to promote participation in meaningful occupations through education, habilitation, adaptation, and compensation. Through lecture, discussion, and experiential components, at the conclusion of this course, participants will learn the key members of the interdisciplinary team in low vision rehabilitation and their role, common conditions contributing to low vision, the focus of evaluation and various assessments, and common interventions and technology to maximize functional useable vision (whenever possible) and ultimately occupational performance.

Learning Objectives:

Differentiate between the unique roles of members of the low vision rehabilitation team.
Identify common causes of low vision.
Recognize ranges of visual impairment and expected impact on ADLs.
Determine relevant pertinent medical/visual history and evaluate visual skills that can impact functional performance in ADLs, including eye dominance, visual acuity, visual field, contrast sensitivity, and oculomotor skills.
Develop interventions to maximize functional vision in deficit areas of ADLs.
Differentiate between the unique roles of members of the low vision rehabilitation team.
