Do I need a boat to participate?

Accepted Answer

No! All monitoring is done from shore, so no boats required! Public water accesses and boat launches are frequently some of the first places new invasive species appear, making it easy to do this important monitoring from shore.

Do I need a vehicle to participate?

Accepted Answer

Maybe. Once you arrive at the local training site you will be put into teams and be given monitoring routes to follow. A vehicle will be required to visit those monitoring routes, however if you are comfortable riding with another participant you may not need to drive your own.

Question 3

Will I get wet?

Accepted Answer

You will not need to enter the water to complete these activities. It's good to wear shoes that can get wet as you'll be near the water and water may drip off plants onto your feet, but no part of your body needs to enter the water in order to participate.

Question 4

Do I have to know anything about aquatic invasive species to participate?

Accepted Answer

No! All you have do is be ready to spend some time outside! We'll provide all the training you need to participate. No previous experience or knowledge required.

Is this event family friendly?

Can my kid attend alone?

Accepted Answer

Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian . The only exception to this is if participating as part of an organized youth group like Scouts, 4-H, etc. These youth groups must reach out to us in advance to ensure safety protocols are followed.

How should I dress?

Accepted Answer

Watch the weather closer to event day and dress for the weather. We recommend having layers as the event starts in the morning but wraps up closer to noon so temperatures may shift throughout the day.
