Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening & Support Certification
Overview
This is a two-day training. The trainings is scheduled for December 8 and December 9. You MUST attend both days to receive your certification. More information of what is required from participants is below.
How can we work with families most effectively?
What does it mean to be a quality Family Strengthening and Support Program?
How can managers, direct service staff, and families work together to develop and sustain quality programs?
The nationally-adopted Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening & Support are used by public departments, foundations, networks, community-based organizations, and parents used as a tool for planning, providing, and assessing quality practice. Based on the Principles of Family Support Practice and the Strengthening Families Framework and its research-based evidence-informed 5 Protective Factors, they have created a common language across different kinds of Family Strengthening and Family Support programs such as Family Resource Centers, home visiting programs, and child development programs.
This certification training details how the Standards can enhance work with families. Whether you are setting up a new program or strengthening an existing one, the Standards provide a blueprint for implementing best practice.
Participants from Programs are highly encouraged to come as teams with Executive Directors, Managers, Coordinators, and Direct Service Staff, as each has a key role to play in implementing the Standards effectively. Participants who successfully complete will receive a certificate from the National Family Support Network that is valid for two years.
The training will begin promptly each day – latecomers will not be admitted. You must attend all portions of both days of training.

We want to share an important update on the Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening & Support and the Standards Certification Training.
To align with evolving policy considerations, the National Family Support Network (NFSN) has updated the Standards to minimize external risks while maintaining its mission. While key terminology has been adjusted, the core framework and commitment to supporting all families and communities remain unchanged.
These updates were carefully considered with input from the NFSN Board, Training Committee, national partners, and content experts to ensure that all NFSN Member Networks across the country can continue offering the Standards Training without disruption.
The Community-Centered Workgroup— comprised of NFSN Members, Family Resource Center staff, and other stakeholders nationwide— will review and recommend refinements to the Standards’ language for potential inclusion in future updates.
Thank you for your commitment to high-quality family support—we look forward to continuing this work together.
