THE SCIENCE & TRADITION

Ssanggeom, documented in the historic Muyedobotongji, is the sophisticated art of dual-wielding swords. This practice uniquely trains the body to respond with both defensive and offensive movements simultaneously, developing neural pathways that enhance coordination between the brain's hemispheres.

The practice is known to stimulate the pineal gland—an endocrine gland in the center of the brain that regulates sleep cycles through melatonin production and influences other hormonal functions. Traditional martial arts masters have long understood what modern science now confirms: activities that require complex coordination can enhance neurological integration and potentially support pineal gland function, which can be compromised by modern lifestyle factors.
