Spoken Word study is a generative 8-week series in which veteran poet and spoken word artist Brandon Wint explores the ethical, written and performance-based implications of developing a practice as a spoken word artist. With a nearly equal focus on writing and performance, Spoken Word Study is an opportunity for poets of all experience levels to earnestly interrogate the social, political, spiritual and creative stakes of spoken word poetry. Brandon believes deeply in collective modes of study, whereby every participant is welcome to be a teacher and a learner, by virtue of their courage, generosity and sincerity.
This series intends to help poets develop a healthy curiosity about the power of spoken word, and to access that power in ways that are creative, authentic, self-aware and loving.
Please note that Spoken Word Study welcomes as many as 12 poets to be part of the cohort. Poets who do not sign up to be full cohort members are welcome to participate on a drop-in basis during the first four sessions.
