Overview

Take the next step in handspinning by learning to plan for and spin yarn to make a specific project!

6-Part Series

Date: Tuesdays, March 3 - April 7

6-9pm

Description: Take the next step in handspinning by learning to plan for and spin yarn to make a specific project!

In Spinning 2, students will select their own projects and learn all the steps in planning from fiber selection to finishing considerations.

Students will choose an appropriately-sized project for a 6-week class (such as spinning yarn for a hat, cowl, socks, or woven or knit scarf) and learn:

  • How to calculate fiber quantities to spin yarn for any project
  • How to select fiber with characteristics that will make your yarn a good match for your project
  • How to fine-tune your spinning to meet your project's yarn requirements
  • Considerations for spinning, plying, and finishing your yarn to achieve a finished yarn

What you'll take away: Finished yarn that you can then use to create your planned project! Note, larger projects like sweaters require more spinning time than we'll have in class, but you will gain the complete skill set to plan and execute any spinning project independently in the future!

Note: this class will take you through the steps of creating the yarn for your specific project. You will do the actual construction of your project through knitting, crochet, weaving, etc, independently after the class concludes.

Prerequisites: Students should be comfortable using a spinning wheel to make continuous thread, or be proficient with a drop spindle. Wheels will be available during class sessions. Students may need additional studio time outside of class to complete their project yarn. Open Studio rental is available to students at a 50% discount!

Tuition: $270 + $10 materials fee (for in-studio sampling)

Materials: only in-studio sampling fiber will be provided, students will source and provide their own materials for their individual projects.

Scholarships: We really want you to join us in the studio! Full and partial tuition scholarships are available to offset some of the financial burden of attending a class.

Please fill out the application here! You can expect to hear from someone on the CC staff within 2 weeks.
