Special screening of The Lesbians of San Diego play

Special screening of The Lesbians of San Diego play

By First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego

Overview

A tribute to the stories, struggles, and triumphs of those who helped pave the way for LGBTQ+ rights.

Over the summer, there was a play called the “Lesbians of San Diego” https://losdplay.org/

As the title suggests, the play is based on several interviews that were conducted with the women who formed the lesbian community in San Diego over the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Those interviews became the basis of the script, and the play was performed at a local venue over the month of August, 2025.

Every performance was sold out. The producer (Kit Gately) had one of the performances recorded, and we will show a screening of the play.

Music played an important part of community life, and singer songwriters Pam Briggs and Maggie Beck (portrayed in the play) will entertain from 7 pm to 7:45 pm, followed by the screening. Pam & Maggie have brushed off their guitars, tuned up their voices and are joining us once again. They perofrmed regularly at the San Diego County Fiar, the Old Time Cafe and music fesitvals. They joined the San Diego Women's Chorus for a memorable concert in 1997, featuring "A Womans's Anthem" - a song as relevant today as it was back them.
