Event description

Description

In a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home on the outskirts of Seattle, Pacific Bonsai Museum presents the exclusive first performance of the LAB (Living Art of Bonsai): an experimental collaborative pushing the limits of bonsai design. Guests explore the intersection of environmental art, durational art, performance, architecture, and design, as they witness the creation of a living sculpture and watch as three renowned artists--Ryan Neil (bonsai artist), Ron Lang (ceramicist) and Austin Heitzman (furniture maker)--resequence traditional bonsai practices under the influence of a work of an iconic American architect.

The action is participatory; guests can engage in the dialogue and interject questions in a moderated discussion as the art emerges.

Preliminary Program

2:15pm to 2:45pm

  • Architectural tour of the property led by University of Oregon Professor Kevin Nute--an expert in the influences of Japan on the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright.

3:00pm to 6:00pm

  • An unveiling of works created by Ron Lang and Austin Heitzman for the project
  • Live bonsai styling by Ryan Neil
  • Moderated dialogue, discussion, and questions

6:00pm to 7:00pm

  • Refreshments and informal discussion

If for some reason you are unable to attend the event, the price of your ticket will be considered a donation to the Pacific Bonsai Museum. We can send you a thank you letter acknowledging your tax-deductible, charitable donation; contact the Museum for details.
