About this event

Sour-curious? This hands-on workshop is the perfect place to start. You’ll learn how to keep a sourdough starter alive and thriving, and how to bake delicious bread with simple tools and ingredients you already have at home.

Back by popular demand, the class is taught by The Simple Environmentalist, home baker and zero-waste content creator. This class keeps things fun, low-key, and totally beginner-friendly. Come get your hands doughy and leave with everything you need to start baking!

🥖 You’ll get:

✔️ Expert instruction on feeding, storing, and baking with sourdough

✔️ A bread tasting to experience the flavor of wild fermentation

✔️ A take-home jar of mature, active sourdough starter

✔️ Printed care instructions to guide your baking journey

This class is perfect for beginners—no prior experience needed.

💵 $50 – includes all materials, instruction, and tasting.

🧡 All proceeds benefit Ollie’s Kitchen, a youth culinary program launching at the Gene Lucas Community Center in 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Will we bake bread during the class?

You’ll learn how to bake, but we won’t be baking a full loaf during the workshop (it takes too long!). You’ll taste fresh sourdough and go home with everything you need to start baking on your own.

What will I take home?

You’ll leave with an active sourdough starter, a reusable jar, printed care instructions, and the confidence to feed, maintain, and bake with your starter.

What should I bring?

Just yourself and a readiness to learn! We’ll provide all materials and supplies. If you already have a special jar (with a lid) that you'd like to use, feel free to bring it.
