Join local microbaker Jessica Sherrow of Pennyloaf Bread Co. for an afternoon of small-batch breadmaking at Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center. You’ll learn the art and science of naturally leavened sourdough from start to finish—demystifying fermentation, working with fresh local flours, and shaping your own boule to bake at home. This warm, welcoming workshop is designed for bakers of all levels. Whether you’re a first-timer or looking to deepen your practice, you’ll leave with practical skills, new inspiration, and everything you need to keep baking: a fresh loaf, a proofing basket, and an active starter to grow with.

You'll Experience:

  • Fermentation Confidence: Learn every step of the sourdough process in a supportive, hands-on environment
  • Practical Tools & Takeaways: Go home with a proofing basket, shaped boule, fresh-baked loaf, and active starter
  • Flavorful Foundations: Explore the importance of local grains, fresh flours, and long fermentation for taste and texture
  • Joy in the Craft: Revel in the satisfaction of slow food and the pride of making something nourishing from start to finish

We’re deeply grateful for this support, which allows us to connect more people with outdoor learning experiences.

Organized by

From forest and farmland in the Snoqualmie Valley, Oxbow cultivates conservation and food security to support and sustain a healthy Cascadia region.

How we turn our mission into impact:

  • Steward The Land: From the banks of the river to the crest of the hills, we use conservation practices to support healthy habitats for wildlife and pollinators.
  • Grow Native Plants: Our Native Plant Nursery grows Washington native plant species and cultivates conservation by connecting people to native plants and encouraging their widespread use in local landscapes.
  • Grow Food: We donate the fruit and vegetables we grow to those in need through our food security partners.
  • Provide Immersive Experiences: Our programs connect people of all ages to the natural world and engage them in the dynamic relationship between conservation, native plants, and the food we eat.
