Sourdough Bread for Kids: Learn the Essentials for Sourdough Bread @ Home
Overview
Let's get the kids in the kitchen! Sourdough bread making and baking can be enjoyed by all ages, and sourdough starter can be utilized at home to make a wide variety of gut-friendly baked goods at home together.
Bring your kiddo(s) to this kid-friendly class and learn all the essentials for making bread and taking care of your sourdough starter home.
We will work on two loaves together during class, a small and a large loaf (which will be baked at home), and we will score and bake small classic white loaves in The Sourdough Spot's stone bread oven. Owner & baker Maegan Vaughan will perform lots of demonstrations and answer all of your burning questions throughout class, and you’ll get to learn every part of the making and baking process.
Bring your own mix-ins for your doughs (email with details to follow) and enjoy a complimentary bread bar while we hang out and get comfortable with sourdough in The Sourdough Spot's cozy container at Iron District in North Kansas City.
You’ll learn how to care for your new sourdough starter and go home with your share of Bertha (The Sourdough Spot’s organic sourdough starter), as well as:
- Two dishwasher-safe, food-grade proofing baskets - 1 small, 1 large
- A razor for scoring
- Beginner recipes for small and large sourdough bread loaves + focaccia
- Sourdough starter care guide
- Small + large bread dough to bake at home
- A small, freshly baked classic white sourdough bread loaf
Whether you’re new to bread making or have been at it for a while, I’m excited to meet you and help simplify the process to get you confidently baking sourdough bread at home. See you at Iron District!
