About this event

Come enjoy an evening of melody and poetry from Maine composers!

Songs From Here is an initiative dedicated to developing art song written in Maine. Founded in 2021, Songs From Here has since commissioned dozens of melodies from Maine's composers and presented them in performances around the state; in barns, libraries, and concert halls, from Saco to Surry and beyond.

Now in their fourth concert season, Songs From Here performance duo Sarah Tuttle (voice) and Bridget Convey (piano) present a program that celebrates a few of the crafts and trades of Maine. This program for 317 Main includes brand-new arrangements of sea songs by beloved Maine folk musician Gordon Bok, new takes on traditional Acadian folk melodies, and original songs by resident composer Erica Ball that reflect on motherhood and the often-invisible work of the home. A piece by student composer Scott Barber pays tribute to one of Maine's most famous exports - blueberries!

You may also recognize Sarah from her performance at last year's Fiddles and Pipes show at Merrill auditorium -- we are excited to be joined by her again for Songs From Here!
