How can nature inspire new modes of resistance through rising tides of hypercapitalism?

Something Fierce is an art festival on queer ecology at Flux IV in Hunter's Point, Queens, opening Saturday November 22, from 5-9pm. The festival presents interdisciplinary works by leading contemporary artists encompassing new media, video, sculpture, installation, and performance.

The works engage with biodiversity, speculative ecology, psychogeography, and climate change, through the lens of queer desire, community, and persistence. The location is at the mouth of Newtown Creek- one of the most polluted waterways in the United States.

Works include a sound installation reconstructing the song of extinct Hawaiian birds, a database of multi-sex species, performance using live microscope videos of biological material, a video tour of cruising areas in neglected landscapes, disappearing writings using water from the Newtown Creek, and many other projects searching for queer futures in the anthropocene.

There will be performance programs and an exhibition on both days, which will also include a series of films.

Artists include: Andrea Haenggi, Andrés Senra, Caroline McManus, Cherry Nin, Earthworks, Eli Brown, Elsa Brès, Esther The Bipedal Entity, Eva Tellier, Hannes Egger, Hey There Kapplow, Lea Fulton, Martha Steele, Mason Youngblood, Michael Abrams, Midheaven Or Nah, Noah Ortega, Ria Rajan, Sally Beauti Twin, Sandrine Deumier, Walker Tufts, Zack Handler, Zavé Martohardjono, and more!

The exhibition is curated by artist Amelia Marzec. It is presented by Flux Factory, in partnership with Fall of Freedom.
