Solstice Tree Walk: Trees of the NCL
Overview
Learn about ten of the tree species around and inside the Naval Cemetery Landscape and along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. This talk will touch on native species as well as a few common but non-native species that you might encounter along Brooklyn greenways and touch on light winter ID of evergreens and deciduous species. Learn how trees support a rich array of life: soil microorganisms, insects, birds, and us-even in winter! Participants will observe a designed and managed landscape where aesthetics are just one of many components that guide the design and maintenance and learn how plant and management choices affect habitat. Build skills in making observations in natural spaces!
Please note: there is no indoor space at the Naval Cemetery Landscape- please wear warm layers and dress appropriately for the weather during this winter event!
