Wilderness EMT Course

Join us for an exhilarating and hands-on Wilderness EMT Course! This in-person event is perfect for adventure enthusiasts and aspiring medical professionals alike. Starting Friday Aug 15, this course promises to equip you with essential life-saving skills in the beautiful surroundings of Keystone Heights, FL.

During this comprehensive training, you'll learn how to handle medical and traumatic emergencies in remote and challenging environments. Our expert instructors will guide you through wilderness-specific scenarios, teaching you vital techniques such as improvised splinting, wilderness rescue, and emergency evacuation.

What are the required items for the course?

Please bring the following items to class -Tent and sleeping gear for camping three nights -Sleeping/ ensolite pad -Raingear and proper seasonal clothing - Portable cell phone charger -Hiking boots/sturdy shoes. No sandals except at campsite -Notebook with Pen -sunscreen/bug spray - water bottle

What items are recommended for the course?

-pocket knife -magnesium fire starter -basic compass -personal gear you can use to splint - paracord

What about lodging and cost?

The course includes camping for three nights. Participants can enjoy the bonding experience at the group camp site.

What about food?

We will grill out at the park pavilion two evenings. * One evening we will eat out at a local restaurant. Please bring your own food for the breakfast and lunches.

What about showers and restrooms?

The group camp site has cold showers and restrooms. Warm showers are a short drive to the main camp sites.

What about parking?

Participants will be be issued a parking voucher for the course duration. Follow the directions to group camp site. Camp set up is from 8:00- 9:00 first day of class.

Can I choose alternative lodging or commute?

Relationship building and bonding is an important part of the course. We prefer participants all stay in the group site as it is covered in the course. You can choose to stay at home or find alternative lodging at your own cost.

Can we leave the park?

Course times may vary and include night time scenarios. The parking voucher has a gate code on the back if you need to leave.

What is the refund policy?

Failure to show up for a course and not call in advance may result in no or partial refund. All paid participants may reschedule in a future course.

What is alcohol policy?

We follow all state park rules and have a no drug or alcohol policy for all courses. WEMT requires everyone to be well fed, hydrated, and safe at all times.

What is the minimum age and requirements to take the course?

Participants must be 18 years of age and hold an active EMT license or current EMR certificate.

Are CEU's offered?

Yes, 26.5 hours

Is there a certifciation?

Yes, you will receive a WEMT certification through SOLO valid for two years or Wilderness First Responder for three years.

Is there an exam?

Yes - a comprehensive written exam followed by a search and rescue mission where each team and member will be evaluated on their skills and team dynamics.

Are books included?

Yes, each participant will receive a Wildcare book start of class.

What to expect in a SOLO class?

All SOLO instructors have vast experience in outdoor education, and leadership training. The short condensed lectures help participants understand what makes wilderness unique. The majority of the course will be in hands-on scenario based training with post debriefing sessions.
