By Maximum Effort Foundation

Overview

A festival of power, culture, and community. Live sumo battles, global athletes, food, vendors, and big energy taking over San Diego.

Get ready! The SoCal Sumo Open is back on February 14, 2026, at the Japanese American Cultural Center in Vista, California, and this year is bigger than ever.

As a USSF-sanctioned event, the SoCal Open brings top athletes from across the country and around the world together for an all-day showdown. With youth, women’s, men’s, and masters divisions, plus new expanded weight classes, this is where the next generation of champions steps onto the dohyo.

But this isn’t just a sumo tournament
it’s a cultural event and a festival.

Hosted at the Japanese American Cultural Center, the SoCal Open celebrates tradition, community, and the global spirit of sumo. Expect cultural demonstrations, local vendors, food, community engagement, and a festival atmosphere for families, athletes, and fans alike.

If you love sumo, want to compete, or want to experience a cultural event filled with energy and connection, this is the event you don’t want to miss.

Come be part of the movement, come be part of the community, come be part of California sumo.
