Join UC San Diego CREATE and the San Diego Area Writing Project (in CREATE) for a Smart Tech Use for Equity professional development series.

About this event

We just spent a year using tech under duress to reach our students. As we head back to school, we’re asking ourselves: Which tech uses helped support students in necessary ways? Which didn’t? Which do we want to keep? And we’ll take deeper ahas about teaching and learning for equity back to our classrooms. Let’s get the most out of that year of trying to reach our students by any means necessary!

Join UC San Diego CREATE and the San Diego Area Writing Project (in CREATE) for a Smart Tech Use for Equity professional development series in fall 2021, designed to sustain and inform educators after a year of teaching remotely.

In this series of 7 1-hour events in fall 2021, seven San Diego K12 educators will speak to their strategies for engaging and supporting students during this incredibly difficult time in education history -- and now in an “in person” fall 2021. Come join colleagues modeling a habit of considering the pros/cons of tech with equity in mind.

In each event, the facilitating teacher will engage participants in trying and debriefing one "smart" pandemic tech use strategy with ahas for this year. We’ll use the Smart Tech Use for Equity framework and join equity-focused dialogue with CREATE Director Mica Pollock and Kim Douillard, Director of the San Diego Area Writing Project (SDAWP) within CREATE, who together created and piloted the framework in prior years with support from Teaching Tolerance (now Learning for Justice).
