About this event

Meets virtually on Friday, June 13th, 2025 - 9 am to noon and 1 pm - 4 pm
Are you a:
- Certified Gambling Recovery Mentor (CGRM)
- Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) or
- Peer Support Specialist (PSS) in Oregon?
Let's practice our peer mentoring skills!
Perhaps you were certified in the last few years and want an opportunity to share your experiences, while tapping the wisdom of other peers working in the field? A lot of our work comes from learning on the job and we are in a position to make thoughtful decisions independently on some heavy topics.
Not all peers are able to be supervised by more experienced peers who regularly go through the challenges we do, so let's support each other, compare ideas and keep our continuing education units coming in for recertification.
This course is 6 hours total: we will meet in a virtual online classroom, where we interact and apply our current mentoring skills to gambling recovery to support Oregon peers with problem gambling challenges.
Topics include, among anything else you want to discuss: navigating resources, co-occuring mental health challenges, trends in gambling and increasing availability, managing our own well being, faciilitaing groups (it's harder than we thought, right?), working with families/affected others, cultural elements as they relate to problem gambling, and practicing our motivational interviewing skills.
Please know we will talk about dollar amounts, show gambling imagery, discuss traumatic topics including suicidality, expect a high level of self awareness, open mindedness, compassion and learning-mindset.
Attendees must be able to print materials in advance, join from a computer in uninterupted / indoor space (not a car) with a working microphone and camera. You need to be on camera and able to interact at all times during the class. You cannot use a smart phone or tablet and you must be present for the full duration of each session to complete the course successfully.
We've found that is challenging for a lot of folks but we are not able to be flexible on these requirements.
Class meets by Zoom at this link
Frequently asked questions
If you identify as someone in substance use or alcohol recovery, yes! Ideally all peers can be cross trained in mental health, SUD, gambling, gaming and other skills. We'll all benefit from representation of peers from all roles. We need to practice all kinds of scenarios so bring it!
Probably in the Spring of 2026. We offer this class twice a year. Please "follow" us on this site and you will be notified when it is scheduled.
