Join us for a free in-person workshop on bridging political divides, hosted by Braver Angels and co-sponsored by Ames Public Library, Ames Indivisible, the League of Women Voters Ames & Story County, Democracy Every Day, and Ames Area Religious Leaders Association.
In this polarized time, we often misunderstand why people on the other political side hold their beliefs. Instead of seeing them as they see themselves—their core values and concerns—we view them through our own lens, which can deepen division.
This workshop helps participants build the skills to communicate across political differences with respect and clarity. It’s not about changing minds, but about understanding each other better and learning to disagree constructively.
Goals
- Understand the values and concerns of those who differ from you politically
- Learn how to listen so others feel heard
- Practice sharing your views in ways others can hear—even when they disagree
