Dear members and friends of AAIT!

We are happy to announce this 2-day Skill Building Workshop in preparation of the State Court Oral Exam for Interpreter Certification. The goal of this workshop is to provide participants with hands-on practice in order to build and improve their sight, consecutive and simultaneous interpretation skills.

The lectures, exercises and interactive sessions in all three interpretation modes are designed to help participants succeed in the State Court Oral Exam.

Instructor´s Bio:

Anthony T. Rivas is a well-known court interpreter workshop instructor, being one of the collaborators in Roseann Gonzalez’s and Victoria Vasquez’s Fundamentals of Court Interpretation, latest edition, having co-authored with Roseann González several court and medical interpreter study aids, including the University of Arizona ́s National Center for Interpretation ́s well/known Talking Manual for preparation for the federal oral court interpretation exam. Mr. Rivas is also a member of the prestigious International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) with ratings of “A” in both the Spanish and English languages, the highest awarded by such organization. Mr. Rivas’s teaching and research career in Court Interpretation commenced as of 1989 when he was invited by Roseann Gonzalez Dueñas to become a federal court exam developer and interpreter examinee rater. He received his BA in Spanish and Certificate in Linguistics with Highest Honors from Florida International University where he also taught as an adjunct professor. He did his graduate studies in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign at which he held a Teaching Assistantship. Rivas was a full-time instructor at the University of Arizona/Tucson from 2010 through 2016 subsequent to a free-lance relationship with that institution as of 1989. He has presented several times at the ATA, NAJIT, California Court Interpreters Association, and California Federation of Interpreters Annual Conventions.
