About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Join performer and writer KATE HAMMER and comedy writer CHRIS DUDLEY for a four-week intensive sketch creation workshop at the Tron Theatre.

Following a sold-out session earlier in the year, Kate and Chris are back to teach the sketch process from beginning to end, from inspiration and ideation, to writing and performing.

Over the four weeks, participants will learn about the different forms of sketch, brainstorming techniques, how to structure a gag, and how to deliver it, with room left in the schedule for Kate and Chris to go into further detail on specific areas on request.

Each session will include generating ideas that Kate, Chris and the class can feedback on, so that by the end of the workshops each participant has at least four sketches polished to perfection.

Cost: £80 - To book, please reserve your spot by booking through Eventbrite or emailing us at humourmillglasgow@gmail.com. We'll get in touch with information for a bank transfer (this saves you from paying extra booking fees!)

Venue: The Vic Room, Tron Theatre
Dates: Thursdays 7pm - 9pm, 26th June - 17th July

WEEK 1: Thursday 26th June

Introduction to sketch writing in general

Topical sketches

Learn how to take what's in the news or popular online that week and find your own unique angle on it.

WEEK 2: Thursday 3rd July

Parody sketches

From movies and TV shows to commercials and songs, parody is a rich sketch genre that doesn't ever stop.

WEEK 3: Thursday 10 July

Character sketches

We will focus on the extremely returnable sketch format of putting a unique character in settings that create huge laughs. Once you have a character that stands out, the sketches tend to write themselves.

WEEK 4: Thursday 17 July

Observational sketches

Learn to mine from your own experiences and opinions to build sketches that hit home.

This session will also be a final showcase of edited/rewritten sketches from previous classes and offer a plan of next steps for all of the sketch writers.

Each week we will lead the group through exploration of the type of sketch, ideation, pitching, and writing of the sketch genre, with additional time left for: filming on cameras and phones, editing, colour grading, posting, additional feedback, or anything else based on group interest.

Price: £80 - Concessions Available (email humourmillglasgow@gmail.com for PWYC tickets or payment plans)
