In this course, you will learn the building blocks of writing great sketch comedy. We will look at different sketches from television and stage to see what makes them work and will explore character, setting and the elements of a good scene. By the end of this 8-week course you will translate your idea into a fully fleshed-out sketch.

Dates: This class runs Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, starting August 14th and running for 8 weeks. A showcase will be scheduled as an additional opportunity on an evening during the week of October 5th or 12th.
Instructor: Adrienne Thompson
Adrienne Thompson first got involved with Coalition Theater in 2017 and quickly fell in love with its wonderful community of human people. She now serves as the theater’s Marketing Coordinator and spends most of her waking hours at or thinking about the theater. Adrienne is the assistant coach of the current Coalition sketch house team, Legs Akimbo, and performs with the musical improv team, From The Top. She has trained at iO Chicago and has been performing in some capacity since she was a wee child. Adrienne is passionate about the arts as a way to build confidence and community, and she can’t wait to meet a new flock of students!

The Coalition Theater is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Once classes begin, all sales are final. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise that prevent you from attending or completing your registered class. While we do our best to accommodate such situations, refunds are awarded only as credit for a future class or shows and are subject to the discretion of The Coalition Theater management. Requests for refunds will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and any decisions regarding refunds will be made at the discretion of the theater.
