Earlier this week, at the Summit of the Future, the global community adopted several landmark agreements. The 𝑃𝑎𝑐𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐹𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒, the 𝐺𝑙𝑜𝑏𝑎𝑙 𝐷𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑡 and the 𝐷𝑒𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑛 𝐹𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝐺𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 cover a broad, ambitious set of issues, including a new agenda for peace, improved global governance, reform of the international financial architecture, safe digital access and AI governance and youth leading for the future. However, it is not always clear how the ambitious commitments can be implemented. The inaugural 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (Columbia | SIPA) provides a platform for meaningful discussions on how the lofty aspirations of global governance expressed in these outcome documents can be translated into concrete action.
