Acrylic pouring is a fun and creative painting technique where you mix acrylic paints with a pouring medium and then pour them onto a canvas or other surface. Instead of using brushes, you let the paint flow and interact naturally, creating unique, marbled, and abstract patterns.
How it works:
- Mixing: Each color of acrylic paint is mixed with a pouring medium (and sometimes a bit of water) to make it more fluid and help it flow smoothly.
- Layering: The different colors are layered in a cup or poured separately onto the canvas.
- Pouring: The paint is poured onto the canvas in various ways—such as a “dirty pour” (all colors in one cup), “flip cup” (cup flipped onto the canvas), or “puddle pour” (individual puddles of color).
- Tilting: The canvas is tilted and moved around to let the paint spread and create interesting patterns.
- Drying: The painting is left to dry flat, which can take several hours to a day.
Key features:
- No two pours are ever the same—each piece is unique!
- You can create “cells” (bubble-like patterns) by adding silicone oil or torching the surface.
- It’s a great technique for beginners and experienced artists alike.
