About this event

We will be exploring common simulants/imitations, natural stones that are often mistaken for each other, and more unusual stones observed in the laboratory. We’ll discuss standard benchtop gemology techniques to aid in separation as well as more in depth advanced testing techniques used in the laboratory.

Virginia Schneider is a Colored Stones Staff Gemologist at GIA in New York. She was previously an Analytics Technician at GIA, performing advanced laboratory testing on colored stones, diamonds, and pearls, with a particular focus on LA-ICP-MS. She has her GG from GIA, FGA from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, and her bachelors in Geological Sciences from the University of Texas.

Admission Limited to 50. Prepaid Only! No walk-ins! As a courtesy to our alumni and the speakers there will be no admittance after 6 PM. If you are not on the security list by the RSVP date of Tuesday, May 13th, you cannot attend. This is 7 days before the event!! All attendees must bring their government issued identification (driver’s license or passport) to pick up their access card at the building lobby security post area with no exception. Please come half hour early due to security protocols.
