Event description

Description

Back in Africa, Congolese musician Siama Matuzungidi (Pronounced: See-AH-maw - Maw-two-zoon-GE-de) recorded hundreds of songs and toured the world with popular soukous artists. Now based in Minneapolis, he's known for his intricate acoustic guitar, spirited singing, catchy songs and traditional African instruments like mbira (thumb piano) and balafon (marimba). For this very special concert he'll be joined by master drummer Tim O'Keefe (who hails from Duluth!) and Siama's partner in life and music, singer/narrator Dallas Johnson.

Together, they'll invite us on a journey to Siama's homeland where music is affectionately known as "the sound of happiness". Whether playing traditional Bas Congo sounds, Central African blues, rhythmic folk music or uplifting soukous (dance) music, everyone will be encouraged to sing along in Kikongo, Lingala, Swahili and English as Siama shares the joyous music of his homeland.

To learn more about Siama, check out www.SiamaMusic.com and watch this very special TPT Lowertown Line episode about Siama's life and music. TPT's Lowertown Line episode about Siama's life and music

Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m. with music starting at 7:30.

Tickets available at Eventbrite.com, Electric Fetus Duluth and Globe News Superior
