Overview

This hands-on, 4-week workshop walks you through the complete journey of producing a short film — from story and development to pre-production, post, and festival strategy. You’ll leave with a refined project concept, a working pitch deck + lookbook, and a clear roadmap to produce and release your film.

What you’ll learn


  • Transform an idea into a producible short film with a strong logline & synopsis
  • Development assets: Pitch Deck + Lookbook (created in Week 1)
  • Pre-production planning: team, budget, schedule, locations, wardrobe, props, shot list
  • Post-production workflow: edit, color, sound/music, poster, press release, marketing
  • Festivals & distribution: submission strategy, press kit, assets, career-focused release plan


4-Week Line-Up / Syllabus

WEEK 1 — Story & Development (Pitch Deck + Lookbook)


  • Finding & shaping your story; short film structure
  • Writing essentials: logline, synopsis, script development
  • Creating your Pitch Deck and Lookbook (visual identity & tone)
  • Labs, residencies, funds & development platforms (what they want; how to apply)
  • Preparing to pitch your project professionallyOutcome: A clear, producible concept + a visual pitch package (deck & lookbook) started.

WEEK 2 — Pre-Production & Planning

  • Building your creative team: director, cast, key crew; roles & expectations
  • Budgeting & scheduling for short films; call sheets & breakdowns
  • Locations, wardrobe, props; permitting basics; insurance considerations
  • Director prep: shot list, coverage plan, gear list (camera/lighting) & backups
  • Data safety: dual-backup workflow (primary + mirror drive)Outcome: Complete pre-production plan and ready-to-shoot checklist.


WEEK 3 — Post-Production & Marketing

  • Editorial pipeline; working with editor/color/sound & music choices
  • Designing your poster; establishing visual branding across platforms
  • Writing a press release; EPK/press kit components; trailer/teaser basics
  • Marketing timeline: web, socials, and outreach for visibilityOutcome: Post plan + brand assets started (poster/press release) and release calendar.

WEEK 4 — Festivals & Distribution Strategy


  • Targeting the right festivals for your film (fit vs. prestige)
  • Building a strong submission package (EPK, trailer, stills, synopsis, credits)
  • Strategy beyond festivals: community screenings, online platforms, partnerships
  • Measuring success & career growth; release timing and windowsOutcome: Tailored festival list + distribution strategy and submission-ready assets list.
