Roundtable 3: Connecting and Networking Eastern Europe
Featuring: Robert Born, Beata Hock, Klara Kemp-Welch, Olena Martynuk, and Susan E. Reid. Chair: Allison Leigh
This roundtable addresses the challenge of building a scholarly network among art historians of the region, given that most of us specialize in specific geographies. There is likely no single scholar who speaks all of the region’s languages or straddles its diverse geographies, which underscores the need for solidarity—the key question being how to cultivate it. The discussion will also explore the historical connectivities and entanglements of the region, along with the personal stories of artists, patrons, and art historians—many of whom have interconnected biographies. In doing so, the roundtable will engage with the state of the field and potential avenues for growth, considering how inherently transcultural the region has always been.
