About this event

EVENT DESCRIPTION: SPN has invited True Story Theater to return to Sharon for another program to help us deepen the ways we connect to one another. True Story Theater is a nonprofit improv theater company whose mission is to build empathy, respect, and understanding across differences that divide us, by the honoring of our true life stories. This Free program is open to anyone who has connections to the Sharon community. We hope you will join us.

WHEN: The event will be held virtually on Sunday, October 23, from 4-6pm. The time will pass quickly as you experience storytelling in a fun and creative way and have an opportunity to share your own story, if you so choose.

ZOOM LINK: Once you are registered, a Zoom Link will be sent to you a few days before the event.

MORE DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:

What happens in a True Story Theater performance? The cast of True Story Theater brings together the delight of improvisation with the riveting vulnerability of people sharing their personal truth.

The show’s emcee (called “the conductor”) facilitates brief, spontaneous conversations with volunteers from the audience who share their own feelings and experiences arising from the question “What is it like to be YOU in Sharon?” After each conversation, the actors and musician immediately embody the key feelings and actions they heard, using movement, music, dialogue, and superb listening. All of it is improvised on the spot.

From this simple interaction, audience members laugh, cry, get insights about their lives, and feel an expanded sense of community. Whether you share a moment from your life and see it performed, or just come to watch, this can lead to deeper connections built on greater understanding, compassion, and empathy with one another – and help to reduce the divides among us.
