Get ready to stitch up something both beautiful and practical! In this beginner-friendly sewing class, you’ll learn how to create your very own quilted microwave pot holders—perfect for warming up leftovers in style or gifting to a friend who loves a handmade touch.

Our instructor will walk you through the basics of quilting, layering fabric, and safe construction techniques for heat protection. You’ll learn how to measure, cut, and assemble your holder while exploring fun ways to mix patterns, colors, and textures.

What to Expect:

  • Step-by-step instruction in a supportive, creative environment
  • Bring your own scraps or use some of ours. Heat resistant batting and denim backing included
  • Learn the basics of quilting and sewing machine use
  • Take home a finished pot holder—and the skills to make more!

No sewing experience required—just bring your curiosity and a love for cozy, handmade projects.
Space is limited, so grab your spot and come spend a warm, crafty afternoon sewing with us!

Artist Bio

Karen Heenan is a Lansdowne Artists and community member who creates cute and practical fiber arts out of recycled materials.

  • Everyone is welcome at this workshop! You do not have to have a MakerSpace membership or any affiliation with Utility Works. These tickets are $20
  • This Workshop is free to MakerSpace Equipment Members. If you are interested in a membership check out our membership page here.

  • Street Parking is free.
  • The Highland avenue parking lot behind Dunkin Doughnuts is also available for parking, if there is not closer street parking.
