Sew Your Own Stuffie! With National Artist in Residence Julia Harrison
Overview
3-Hour Workshop
Date: Thursday, November 13th
Time: 6pm - 9pm
Description:
Upcycle a sweater! Sew your own stuffie!
Starting from your own drawing of a cute animal or other character, we'll draft a simple pattern. Next we'll cut the pattern from a beloved, but worn-out sweater. Then we will machine-sew the pieces, assemble, and stuff them with scraps. Finally, we'll add details to bring out the personality of your design.
You'll take home a cuddly, custom-made, and environmentally friendly new friend! A sweet gift for yourself or a loved one.
No previous pattern-making or machine sewing experience necessary.
Students should bring a drawing (think simple, like the bunnies in the picture) to use as a starting point, and a used sweater that can be cut up.
Medium-weight merino wool or cashmere is best; if the sweater has some holes, stains, or mends are fine! If you don't have an old sweater to use, please contact Jamie at jboyle@contemporarycraft.org, so that they can arrange to have material for you to use!
Tuition: $65 + $5 materials fee
Note: We really want you to join us in the studio! Full and partial tuition scholarships are available to offset some of the financial burden of attending a class.
Please fill out the application here! You can expect to hear from someone on the CC staff within 2 weeks.
