About this event

Join the talented duo Katherine and Rachel Dietzman for a sweet two-day sewing workshop where you'll learn to sew the trendy Bestie Bag. This class is perfect for beginners and those looking to enhance their sewing skills.

In this class, Katherine and Rachel will cover essential sewing techniques, including curves, zippers, pockets, and linings. You'll have access to Alchemy's sewing machines, a variety of supplies, and an array of thrifted fabrics—feel free to bring your own materials if you prefer!

By the end of this workshop, you'll not only have a fabulous new bag but also the confidence to tackle future sewing projects. We guarantee a fun and supportive environment where you can express your personal style!

This class is part of a series of classes that Katherine and Rachel are offering that focus on learning how to sew from patterns. This is the most intro level of the classes - other topics coming soon include constructing a shirt, and making pants.

This class is taught by sewists and artists Katherine and Rachel Dietzman.

Class dates: Thursday 9/4 and Thursday 9/11, 6-8pm. Students will have the opportunity to attend Open Studio on Wednesday, 9/10, from 5-7pm.

Class Size: 6 students.

This class is held in the print studio on the AAC campus. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.

Registration: Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to assure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.

A Note on Ticket Pricing: We are offering sliding scale tickets in order to keep our classes accessible to as many community members as possible. There are three price tiers. Sustaining tickets help us continue to invest in programming. Full price tickets cover the costs associated with running classes. Accessibility tickets are priced below what it costs for us to run a class. If the cost of a full price ticket is a hardship, we encourage you to purchase a sliding scale ticket. If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.

Tuition Assistance: Tuition assistance is available for Alchemy classes and workshops if finances are a barrier. Apply for tuition assistance here.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need sewing experience to take this class?

It will be helpful to have some beginner level sewing experience to get the most out of this class. Katherine and Rachel have developed this offering in a way that is approachable for beginners but interesting and exciting for those with more experience as well!

No, this class is cumulative and participants need to be able to attend both evenings.

Can I purchase a ticket as a donation to Alchemy?

That is so kind, but our class sizes are very small and we would like to make sure everyone who wants to attend this class is able to! If you would like to donate to Alchemy, please visit this page: alchemyartcenter.com/donate
