Sew Along with the Museum of the American Revolution

How did people carry their belongings during the Revolutionary War? Channeling Thomas Champion, the colonial era tailor of Haddonfield, join staff from the Museum of the American Revolution for a hands-on sewing workshop exploring the history and function of women’s pockets and soldiers’ knapsacks. Participants will learn about the everyday textiles of the 18th century and receive guided instruction to create their own pocket or knapsack, developing an understanding of how important town tailors and garment makers were to building a colonial-era community.

This beginner-friendly workshop requires no prior sewing experience and offers a full-day immersive experience into the material culture of the Revolutionary era. You will be leaving the museum with either a finished or work-in-progress knapsack or pocket.

Please note you will need to provide your own lunch or head into town to eat.
