Set Boundaries, Find Peace A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself- A Reading Course
Description
This CE opportunity includes reading the book Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself by Nedra Glover Tawaab. It is part of the Book Club Educational Series at Elu. This book teaches empowering dialogue prompts for setting boundaries in many categories of human wellness (including relational, physical, and occupational). Helping clients engage in boundary setting is key to sustaining mental health wellness and this book will give models to use in clinical practice. Participants will read the book independently and then take an online quiz for CE completion (must achieve a score of 75% or more, within 3 attempts). The cost for CEs for the book reading and related quiz is $10 . Participants obtain their own copies of the book to read. There is no discussion or live element required for this asynchronous opportunity.
Complete this asynchronous course option and earn continuing education credits for reading a book while deepening your clinical knowledge and building community with colleagues who have also read these selected books on topics related to our shared clinical work. You will hear reference to these books intermittently in our staff meetings, case reviews, and in supervision. As we are jointly reading they will become part of our shared narrative regarding case conceptualization, diagnostic formation, treatment paradigm, human development, and clinical issues related to diversity, gender, social justice, spirituality, psychology, and sociology.
Book Description: In order to achieve balance in life, work, and relationships, healthy boundaries are necessary. Without them, it is difficulty to cope with toxic people, pursue healthy relationships with friends and family, and keep in balance. However, some people struggle to define what "healthy boundaries" really mean. They might also wonder how to balance saying "no" with not offending or disappointing others around them. This book is written by a well respected therapist who also has a large Instagram following for her practical advice. Nedra Glover Tawaab, a licensed therapist, relates to the audience building a case and giving practice scripts for navigating some common boundary struggles. This is a helpful tool for clinicians as it gives an inclusive tone and empowerment approach to working with clients with permeable boundaries. This book draws on the latest research and best practices used in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), these techniques help us identify and express our personal needs clearly and without apology. This is a helpful resource in working with clients around issues of power struggles, anxiety, depression, burnout, and more.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will compare and contrast the supporting clinical ideas and concepts on setting boundaries.
2. Participants will list empowered responses that set boundaries with dialogue prompts.
3. Participants will discuss specific application of the book’s content on boundaries to clinical case studies and diverse client populations.
4. Participants will express a deepened clinical vocabulary related to setting boundaries and client empowerment.
