Overview: Oregonians of all ages and backgrounds are experiencing a continued increase in mental and behavioral health challenges, which can have adverse impacts on their ability to participate in education and training programs, enter the workforce, maintain employment, and live stable, fulfilling lives.
It is critical that service providers within the local workforce system have the skills and information necessary to appropriately understand and assist individuals as they re-enter the workforce, engage in training/education programs, and/or maintain employment while managing or recovering from a behavioral health condition.
During Session III of the Behavioral Health and Workforce Services Symposium: Industry experts, workforce service providers, and Human resource professionals will lead conversations and activities to help service providers better understand how they can engage employers in hiring individuals with behavioral health needs and provide supportive work environments.
This event will include small group discussion activities, a whole group Q&A/panel discussion on key topics, and networking/relationship building activities.
Topics which may be covered include:
- Disclosure of a condition, need, or circumstance during the job application, interview, and hiring process
- Answering difficult questions on job applications or interviews
- Understanding reasonable accommodations and workplace modifications from an employer perspective
- Human Resources considerations and perspectives, and how to address them with employers
- Resources for employers and workers
Who should attend: Anyone providing members of the public with support services or coaching related to education, training, or employment; and/or anyone providing services to the public that would benefit from better understanding the impacts of behavioral health experiences on individuals, especially within the workplace or while seeking employment.
This event is supported by Clackamas Workforce Partnership, Northwest Family Services, and ODHS - Vocational Rehabilitation.
