Event description
Author and consultant Jan Glick will lead a discussion about the benefits, considerations, and process of consolidation or merger.

About this Event

The disrupting influence of COVID makes this a good time to think about doing our work differently. Could organizational restructuring bring new vitality to your mission?

Consultant and author Jan Glick will explore common myths about nonprofit consolidations and mergers and discuss the potential benefits. Jan draws from his experience consulting and facilitating 32 nonprofit partnerships and mergers.

In this session, you will also learn:

  • What to expect during a consolidation or merger process
  • The timeline and phases common to consolidation or merger processes

Often, organizational restructuring is motivated by a desire to preserve a unique mission. Jan will share information from recent reports and local and national examples. You will also hear from four panelists who bring experience with nonprofit consolidations and mergers:

  • Mary Yglesia, former executive director of the Seattle Midwifery School, which merged into Bastyr University
  • David Johnson, former CEO of Navos, who has been through several mergers as both the larger and smaller partner
  • Sheila Edwards Lange, President of Seattle Central College – whose College Foundation was part of a multi-party merger with the Foundations of North Seattle Community College and the College District Foundation
  • Nancy Long, Executive Director, 501 Commons who oversaw the acquisition of several organizations into 501 Commons and participated in several mergers and restructuring processes in health care organizations
