Service Dog Intermediate Public Access Workshop

By Custom K-9 Service Dogs

Overview

A supportive, multi-store, indoor workshop to strengthen your service dog’s public access skills.

Ready to give your service dog real-world public access practice?

This hands-on workshop is designed for owner-trainers who want to confidently navigate public spaces with their service dog-in-training — without guesswork, overwhelm, or trial-and-error.

We’ll meet at World Market on Topsy Lane for check-in and foundational warm-up, then progress together through the surrounding shopping centers. Throughout the workshop, you and your dog will practice essential public access skills inside multiple stores, finishing with a short lunch stop at a nearby restaurant to work on under-table settles and calm behavior during meals.

This immersive, indoor training experience offers the exact practice most service dog teams struggle to get on their own — guided, structured, and supportive.

What You and Your Dog Will Practice

🛒 Calm, Controlled Heeling in Busy Stores

Navigate aisles, corners, carts, and crowds with consistent positioning and smooth leash handling.

🚧 Ignoring Distractions (People, Food, Smells, Noise)

Build reliability around the biggest challenges of indoor public access.

🪑 Restaurant Manners & Under-Table Settle

Practice calm behavior during a real lunch stop — one of the most important (and hardest!) service dog skills.

🛍 Thresholds, Doorways & Check-Out Lines

Teach your dog polite entries/exits, maintaining heel during transitions, and waiting patiently in line.

🎯 Handler Separation & Focus Skills

Short, structured exercises for confidence and reliability.

🧭 Multi-Environment Generalization

Your dog will learn to apply skills across multiple stores — a major step toward true public access readiness.
